Welcome to the Ocean, Climate, and Ecosystems (OCE) Data Science Research Internship at Brown University, a pioneering initiative that stands at the intersection of earth sciences, data science, and environmental studies. This program is a collaborative endeavor across the Department of Earth, Environmental, & Planetary Sciences (DEEPS), Data Science Institute, and the Institute at Brown for Environment & Society, with a mission to advance girls in STEM fields. The program is one year long and combines two in-person sessions (2 weeks duration each) and remote participation. Applications for the 2023-2024 are currently closed.

TRAINING MODULES

The program is structured to provide a rich learning experience through a series of modules focusing on:

Scientific Programming: Acquire skills in Python, MATLAB, and other tools essential for data analysis and visualization.
Ocean, Climate, and Marine Ecosystems: Gain a foundational understanding of the core concepts in oceanography and climate science.
Literature Search: Learn to navigate and utilize scientific literature effectively, leveraging resources such as Web of Science and Google Scholar.
Research Methods & Project: Engage in hands-on research, from conceptualizing a project to data collection and analysis.
Scientific Publication and Presentation: Master the art of scientific writing and presentation, with opportunities to publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
